Cristiano Ronaldo says he and his Portugal team-mates are ready for their Confederations Cup semi-final showdown with Chile on tonight.
The Real Madrid star has been in sparkling form in Russia this summer, but the real hard work begins when they face the Copa America winners in Kazan.
There have been plenty of shots fired between the two camps in the build-up, but if Ronaldo’s latest Twitter snap is anything to go by, Portugal are ready for war. The captain posted a picture of him and his team-mates posing for the camera as they put in their final preparations in training, alongside the caption ‘ready for tomorrow’.
Fernando Santos’ side have been using Rubin Kazan’s training base in the west of Russia, in the same city as their semi-final is set to take place.
Ronaldo was front and centre during the latest session on Tuesday, and the squad looked focused as they were put through their paces. The latest motivation for Ronaldo and his Portugal colleagues came from the mouth of Chile’s Arturo Vidal, who sent a scathing message to the Madrid man this week.
I have already told my Bayern Munich team-mate [and Germany international] Joshua Kimmich that we will meet again in the final!’
Arturo Vidal had asserted on Tuesday that his team will overcome Portugal in the FIFA Confederations Cup semi-final and meet reigning World Cup champions Germany in the title clash on July 2.
Vidal however, has allayed any fears ahead of the vital tie, asserting that the four-time Ballon d’Or winner will not be able to carry Portugal to the final. Vidal also lashed out at the Portuguese star, saying he does not exist for him. “Cristiano is a smart ass. For me he does not exist,” Vidal said.
