The
Senate, on Tuesday, went on a two-week break for the celebration of Easter.
The lawmakers adjoined plenary to April 25, 2017.
While the lawmakers will continue work on the 2017 Appropriation Bill during the holiday , they will suspend work on other pending matters in the Senate.
The upper chamber of the National Assembly had said the appropriation would be passed “ earlier than 2016 budget,” which was passed in May .
President of the Senate, Senator Bukola Saraki, who presided over the plenary on Tuesday, hinted that the budget might be ready for passage when the lawmakers resume.
He urged committees to avail the Committee on Appropriations additional information for clarifications when needed during the break.
Saraki said, “The Appropriation Committee will still be working and compiling reports at its secretariat during this period so that this who still have grey areas might still be called upon by the committee. The Appropriation Committee has given its assurance that it would finish with the submissions (reports) and have the compilation ready (by resumption). Those committees might be called upon at any time for interaction by the Appropriations Committee during this time.”
